Tyowennatyerénhton: First Words
Tyowennatyerénhton: First Words is an introductory Kanyen’kéha (Mohawk) vocabulary book and photo book with English translations. Featuring photographs from the land, families, teachers and their students can learn numbers, colours, feelings, traditional foods and other aspects of the natural world, important to the Haudenosaunee.
There are two educator guides for teachers to bring this book into their classroom,
one for grades K - 6 and one for grades 7-12.
K-6 Educator's Guide
Following a Three Sisters framework, this guide plants seeds that are meant to inspire learning, supports making connections to big ideas across multiple subject areas, and encourages educators to nurture their garden and adapt as needed. We recognize that the learning experiences provided may not meet the needs of every student and we encourage educators to customize, accommodate, and modify as needed to support the learning and success of all students
